How to Use Volt Meter?

Set the multimeter to continuity mode or the lowest ohms range

Identify the relay coil terminals using the relay diagram or pinout

Measure resistance across the coil terminals

Turn off power to the circuit and remove the fuse

Set the multimeter to continuity mode or lowest resistance mode

Touch the probes together to confirm the meter works

Turn off power to the circuit

Set the multimeter to continuity mode

Insert the probes into the correct ports

Locate the electric meter, usually near the main service entrance, outside wall, basement, garage, or utility area

Identify the meter type: analog, digital, or smart meter

For an analog meter, read the dials from left to right

Set the volt meter to the correct voltage type: AC or DC

Select a range higher than the expected voltage if the meter is not auto-ranging

Plug the black probe into the COM port
