Clean boots thoroughly and let them dry completely
Remove laces and insoles (if removable)
Brush off dirt and loosened debris
Apply a leather conditioner (for leather boots) and let it absorb
Choose a waterproofing product compatible with the boot material (wax, spray, or membrane-safe waterproofing)
Apply waterproofing evenly over the entire outer surface, including seams and high-wear areas
Pay extra attention to stitching, welt seams, toe caps, and heel edges
Work the product into creases and joints
For spray-on products: apply multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat
For wax-based products: rub in with a cloth, then buff lightly after it sets
For oil-based products: wipe off excess and allow full cure time per label
Reapply waterproofing after the first few wears or after heavy rain/snow exposure
Waterproof the soles and sidewalls as well (not just the upper)
Treat boot seams and any visible gaps with seam sealer if needed
After application, allow boots to dry and cure fully before wearing
Test with a small amount of water on a hidden area, then on the full surface
Maintain by cleaning and re-waterproofing regularly (especially after cleaning)
If water still penetrates: reapply to seams, consider seam sealer, or consider professional repair/reproofing
