Turn off power at the breaker

Verify the outlet circuit is de-energized

Remove the outlet cover plate

Remove the receptacle from the box

Identify the always-hot wire, switched-hot wire, neutral, and ground

Break the tab on the hot side of the receptacle if needed

Connect the always-hot wire to the hot brass terminal

Connect the neutral wire to the silver terminal

Connect the ground wire to the green terminal

If the outlet is fully switched, connect the switched-hot to the receptacle hot terminal and cap the unused always-hot if required

If the outlet is half-switched, keep the neutral tab intact and break only the hot-side tab

Secure all wire connections tightly

Fold the wires neatly into the box

Reinstall the receptacle

Reinstall the cover plate

Turn the breaker back on

Test the outlet and switch operation
