How To Work Out Average Velocity?

Average velocity = total displacement ÷ total time

Find the starting position and ending position

Calculate displacement = ending position − starting position

Measure the total time taken

Divide displacement by total time

Include direction in the answer

Use consistent units, such as m/s or km/h

If motion is in a straight line, average velocity can be positive or negative depending on direction

If the object returns to its starting point, average velocity is zero
