Open the ratchet handle fully
Pull the release lever if needed to unlock the spool
Thread the loose end of the strap up through the slot in the center spool
Pull several inches of strap through the slot
Fold the strap back over itself if your ratchet requires a lock-back
Pump the handle to take up slack
Keep pumping until the strap is snug
Close the ratchet handle completely
Secure the free end of the strap so it will not flap
To release, open the ratchet fully and pull the release lever
Pull the strap back out of the spool slot
