Let the used oil cool completely
Pour the oil into a clean, leak-proof container with a tight lid
Label the container as used oil
Do not mix the oil with water, antifreeze, paint, solvents, or food waste
Store the container in a safe place away from heat and children
Take the sealed container to a recycling center or used oil collection site
Use local hazardous waste drop-off programs if available
Check with auto parts stores or service stations that accept used oil
Never pour used oil down drains, into soil, or into storm sewers
Never burn used oil unless using approved equipment and following local rules
Recycle oil filters if accepted by your local facility
Wipe up small spills with absorbent material and dispose of it properly
