Meet Texas CDL eligibility requirements
Hold a valid Texas driver license
Be at least 18 years old for intrastate driving
Be at least 21 years old for interstate driving, hazardous materials, or passenger transport
Provide proof of identity, Social Security number, Texas residency, and lawful presence
Complete a CDL application at a Texas DPS office
Pass the required vision exam
Obtain a Commercial Learner Permit
Pass the CDL knowledge tests for the class and endorsements you need
Complete any required Entry-Level Driver Training
Practice driving a commercial vehicle with a qualified CDL holder
Schedule and pass the CDL skills test
Pass the pre-trip inspection test
Pass the basic vehicle control test
Pass the road test
Pay the required fees
Receive your Texas CDL from DPS
Add any needed endorsements by passing additional tests
Keep your CDL current by renewing on time and maintaining medical certification if required
