How to Sprout an Acorn?

Collect fresh acorns that are brown and intact

Discard acorns with holes, cracks, or mold

Place acorns in a bowl of water

Discard any acorns that float

Dry the good acorns briefly

Put acorns in a plastic bag with slightly moist peat moss or paper towels

Seal the bag loosely

Store the bag in the refrigerator

Check weekly for mold and moisture

Keep the medium slightly damp, not wet

Wait for the acorn to sprout a root

Plant the sprouted acorn root-down in a pot with soil

Cover it lightly with soil

Water gently

Keep the pot in a cool, bright location

Transplant outdoors after the seedling is established
