Locate the digital meter display
Wake the screen if it is blank
Press the display or scroll button if available
Read the numbers shown on the screen
Note the unit shown, such as kWh, m3, or gallons
Record the main reading exactly as displayed
Check for any extra digits after a decimal point
Ignore any flashing symbols unless your meter instructions say otherwise
Compare the reading with the previous one if needed
Submit the reading to your utility provider if required
