Turn off and unplug the circuit
Discharge the capacitor completely
Remove the capacitor from the circuit if possible
Set the multimeter to capacitance mode
Connect the probes to the capacitor terminals
Observe the reading on the display
Compare the reading with the capacitor’s rated value
Reverse the probes if the capacitor is polarized and the reading is unstable
Replace the capacitor if the reading is far from the rated value or shows open/short
Repeat the test to confirm the result
