Set the multimeter to the correct current setting: A, mA, or µA
Move the red probe to the correct current input jack
Keep the black probe in the COM jack
Turn off the circuit before connecting the meter
Break the circuit so current must pass through the meter
Connect the meter in series with the load
Turn the circuit back on
Read the current value on the display
Start with the highest current range if unsure
Move to a lower range for a more precise reading
Turn off power before removing the meter
Return the red probe to the voltage/ohms jack after measuring current
