Turn off the circuit and disconnect power
Discharge the capacitor completely
Remove the capacitor from the circuit if possible
Set the multimeter to capacitance mode
Insert the test leads into the correct ports
Connect the red probe to the positive terminal
Connect the black probe to the negative terminal
Wait for the reading to stabilize
Read the capacitance value on the display
Compare the reading with the capacitor’s rated value
If no capacitance mode is available, use resistance mode for a basic check
Replace the capacitor if the reading is far from the rated value or shows no change
