Remove the avocado pit from the fruit and wash off all pulp
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks around the middle of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the seed to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge
When roots are several inches long and the stem has leaves, prepare a pot with well-draining soil
Plant the seed in soil with the top half exposed
Water the soil lightly and keep it moist, not soggy
Place the pot in bright indirect light
Continue regular watering as the plant grows
Repot into a larger container as needed
