Turn off the engine and remove the ignition coil connector
Set the multimeter to ohms for resistance testing
Measure primary resistance across the coil’s primary terminals
Compare the reading to the manufacturer’s specification
Measure secondary resistance between the coil output terminal and the primary terminal specified by the manufacturer
Compare the reading to the manufacturer’s specification
Check for continuity between the coil terminals and ground if required by the coil design
Inspect for open circuit readings, short circuit readings, or readings outside specification
Repeat the test for each ignition coil
Replace any coil that fails the resistance test
