Turn off the toilet’s water supply valve
Remove excess water from the bowl if it is near the rim
Use a toilet auger to break up or pull out the clog
Insert the auger gently into the drain opening
Rotate the auger handle while pushing forward
Pull the auger back out and try flushing
Pour hot water into the bowl from waist height
Add dish soap to the bowl and wait 10 to 15 minutes
Try flushing again after the soap and hot water
Use baking soda and vinegar, then wait before flushing
Remove the toilet and clear the blockage from the drain opening
Check for a clog in the toilet trap or drain line
Use a wet/dry vacuum to remove the blockage
Call a plumber if the clog remains or sewage backs up
