Locate the clogged drain or sewer line
Read the Roto-Rooter equipment manual before use
Put on gloves and eye protection
Clear the work area around the drain access point
Turn off nearby water sources if needed
Open the drain cleanout or access point
Insert the cable or auger into the pipe
Feed the cable slowly into the line
Rotate the handle or activate the machine as directed
Advance the cable until resistance is felt
Work the cable back and forth to break up the clog
Withdraw the cable slowly while continuing to rotate
Flush the line with water to check flow
Repeat if necessary until the drain clears
Clean and disinfect the equipment after use
Reassemble and secure the cleanout or access point
Call a professional if the clog remains or the line is damaged
