Sit or lie down immediately
Keep your head still and avoid sudden movements
Focus on a fixed object
Close your eyes if that helps
Breathe slowly and deeply
Stay hydrated
Avoid alcohol
Avoid caffeine
Avoid bright lights and loud noise
Get up slowly from sitting or lying positions
Use a cane or support if walking feels unsafe
Try the Epley maneuver if your vertigo is from BPPV and you know how to do it safely
Rest until the dizziness passes
Eat a light snack if low blood sugar may be contributing
Take prescribed vertigo or nausea medicine as directed
Avoid driving or operating machinery
Sleep with your head slightly elevated
See a doctor if vertigo is frequent, severe, or persistent
Seek urgent care if you have chest pain, fainting, weakness, trouble speaking, severe headache, or new hearing loss
