Preheat the grill to medium-high heat
Scrub the oyster shells clean under cold water
Discard any oysters with cracked shells or that are open and do not close when tapped
Place the oysters cup-side down on the grill grates
Close the grill lid
Grill until the shells begin to open, about 5 to 8 minutes
Remove the oysters from the grill with tongs
Discard any oysters that do not open
Pry open the shells carefully with an oyster knife
Loosen the oyster from the shell if needed
Add butter, garlic, lemon juice, or other desired toppings
Serve immediately
