Wait until after flowering, usually late winter or early spring
Use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears
Remove dead, damaged, or weak segments first
Cut at the joint between stem segments
Trim no more than one-third of the plant at a time
Shorten long or leggy stems to encourage branching
Remove a few segments from each stem rather than cutting all at once
Keep the plant in bright, indirect light after pruning
Water lightly after cutting, then resume normal care once new growth appears
Save healthy cuttings for propagation if desired
