Pull over safely and turn off the engine
Turn on hazard lights
Let the engine cool completely
Do not open the radiator cap while hot
Check coolant level after cooling
Add the correct coolant if low
Check for visible coolant leaks
Inspect radiator hoses for cracks or looseness
Check the radiator fan is working
Check the serpentine belt condition
Check the thermostat
Check the water pump
Check the radiator for blockage or damage
Check the engine oil level
Turn off the air conditioner
Turn on the heater to help reduce engine temperature
Restart only after the temperature drops
Drive to a mechanic if the problem returns
Call roadside assistance if the car keeps overheating
