Make sure the vehicle is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set
Turn the ignition off
Locate the starter motor and its main power terminal
Use a remote starter switch or an insulated jumper wire
Connect one end to the starter solenoid trigger terminal
Connect the other end to the positive battery terminal
Keep clear of moving parts
Briefly apply power to the starter
Remove the jumper immediately after the engine starts or if the starter engages
Disconnect the jumper switch or wire
Check for proper operation and inspect for faults if the starter does not engage
