Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence
Proof of Texas residency
Social Security number
Proof of enrollment in school or a high school diploma/GED if required
Provide verification of driver education enrollment or completion
Have a parent or legal guardian sign the application if under 18
Complete the Impact Texas Drivers program if required
Visit a Texas DPS office
Pass the vision exam
Pass the written knowledge test if not already completed through driver education
Pay the required fee
Have your photo taken
Receive your learner license
Follow permit restrictions
Drive only with a licensed adult age 21 or older in the front seat
Hold the permit for the required time before applying for a provisional license
