How to Install Engineered Hardwood Flooring?

Acclimate the flooring in the installation area according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Verify the subfloor is clean, dry, level, and structurally sound

Remove baseboards, shoe molding, and existing flooring if needed

Test subfloor moisture and confirm it is within acceptable limits

Repair loose boards, cracks, holes, and uneven areas in the subfloor

Plan the layout and determine the starting wall and plank direction

Measure the room and calculate plank cuts to avoid narrow end pieces

Install underlayment or moisture barrier if required by the flooring system

Mark a straight reference line for the first row

Cut the first-row planks as needed to fit the layout

Leave the manufacturer-recommended expansion gap around all walls and fixed objects

Install the first row with the tongue or groove oriented correctly for the chosen method

Secure planks using the recommended method: nail, staple, glue, or floating click-lock

Stagger end joints between rows according to the required pattern

Continue installing rows, maintaining alignment and expansion gaps

Use a tapping block and pull bar when needed to tighten joints

Cut planks to fit around door jambs, vents, and obstacles

Install the final row by trimming planks to width as needed

Reinstall baseboards or shoe molding without fastening them to the floor

Clean the floor and remove debris after installation

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for curing time, traffic limits, and furniture placement
