Open the grill lid
Check that the grill is clean and that the gas supply or charcoal is ready
If using a gas grill, open the gas valve
Turn on the burner control knobs to the lighting setting
Press the igniter button
If the grill does not light, turn off the gas and wait a few minutes before trying again
If using a charcoal grill, arrange the charcoal in a pile or chimney starter
Add lighter cubes or newspaper if needed
Light the fire starter
Wait until the coals are covered with gray ash
Spread the coals evenly
Close the lid if needed and preheat the grill before cooking
