Bend your knees and lower your center of gravity

Keep your weight slightly forward, not on your heels

Use the heel brake if your skates have one

Extend the braking skate slightly in front of you

Press the brake gently into the ground

Shift more weight to the non-braking skate

Practice the heel brake at slow speed first

Use the T-stop by placing one skate behind you at a right angle

Drag the back wheels lightly to slow down

Keep the dragging skate stable and controlled

Use the plow stop by turning both toes inward

Push outward with your heels to create friction

Use the parallel stop by turning both skates sideways

Lean slightly into the stop while keeping balance

Roll onto grass, a curb, or another safe surface if needed

Practice stopping in an open, flat area

Wear protective gear while learning
