Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear
Soak the rice in water for 20 to 30 minutes
Drain the rice well
Add 1 cup rice and 1.5 cups water to a pot
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Bring the water to a boil
Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot
Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until the water is absorbed
Turn off the heat and let the rice rest for 5 to 10 minutes
Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving
