How To Wire A GFCI Outlet?

Turn off the circuit breaker

Verify power is off with a voltage tester

Remove the existing outlet cover plate

Unscrew and pull the outlet from the box

Identify the line wires and load wires

Connect the incoming hot wire to the GFCI LINE brass terminal

Connect the incoming neutral wire to the GFCI LINE silver terminal

Connect any outgoing hot wire to the GFCI LOAD brass terminal

Connect any outgoing neutral wire to the GFCI LOAD silver terminal

Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw

Tighten all terminal screws securely

Fold wires neatly into the box

Mount the GFCI outlet into the box

Install the cover plate

Turn the breaker back on

Press the TEST button

Press the RESET button

Confirm the outlet works properly
