Wash and dry the basil
Pinch or snip off the top leaves just above a leaf pair
Cut stems with clean scissors or a sharp knife
Avoid cutting more than one-third of the plant at a time
Remove flower buds as soon as they appear
Harvest from the top to encourage bushier growth
Use the cut leaves immediately or store them properly
