Use a fine-tooth lice comb on wet, conditioned hair
Section the hair and comb from scalp to ends
Wipe the comb on a tissue or rinse it after each pass
Repeat combing every 2 to 3 days for 2 weeks
Use an over-the-counter lice treatment exactly as directed
Repeat the treatment if the product instructions say to do so
Check all household members for lice and nits
Treat close contacts if they are infested
Wash bedding, hats, scarves, and recently worn clothing in hot water
Dry items on high heat
Seal non-washable items in a plastic bag for 2 weeks
Vacuum carpets, furniture, and car seats
Soak combs and hair accessories in hot water for 10 minutes
Avoid sharing combs, brushes, hats, and pillows
Do not use lice sprays on people
Remove nits by combing or picking them out after treatment
