Pull over to the curb safely
Turn the wheels toward the curb when facing uphill
Turn the wheels away from the curb when facing downhill
Shift into park for an automatic transmission
Put the car in first gear or reverse for a manual transmission
Set the parking brake firmly
Let the vehicle roll slightly until the tires rest against the curb if needed
Turn off the engine
Remove the key or key fob
Check that the vehicle is secure before leaving it
