Gather the correct engine oil, oil filter, wrench, drain pan, funnel, jack, and jack stands
Warm up the engine for a few minutes, then turn it off
Park on a level surface and set the parking brake
Lift the vehicle safely and secure it with jack stands if needed
Place the drain pan under the oil drain plug
Remove the drain plug and let the old oil drain completely
Reinstall and tighten the drain plug
Remove the old oil filter
Lubricate the gasket on the new oil filter with fresh oil
Install the new oil filter and tighten it properly
Add the correct amount of new oil through the oil filler cap
Check the oil level with the dipstick and adjust if needed
Start the engine and let it run briefly
Check for leaks around the drain plug and oil filter
Turn off the engine and recheck the oil level
Dispose of the used oil and old filter properly
