How To Stop Nose Bleeding?

Sit upright and lean forward slightly

Pinch the soft part of your nose (just below the bony bridge)

Hold continuous pressure for 10–15 minutes without releasing

Breathe through your mouth during pressure

Apply a cold pack to the nose and cheeks

After bleeding stops, avoid blowing your nose, picking, or heavy lifting for 24 hours

Use saline spray or a thin layer of petroleum jelly inside the nostrils if the inside feels dry

If bleeding starts again, repeat the 10–15 minutes of firm pressure

Seek urgent care immediately if bleeding lasts longer than 20 minutes despite pressure

Seek urgent care immediately if bleeding is heavy, you feel faint, or you have trouble breathing

Seek urgent care immediately if you had a head injury or the bleeding is from the back of the throat

Seek urgent care immediately if you take blood thinners (such as warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran) or have a bleeding disorder

Contact a clinician soon if nosebleeds are frequent or unexplained
