Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing near the burn
Cover the burn with cling film or a clean, non-fluffy dressing
Keep the burn clean and dry
Take pain relief if needed, following the label instructions
Do not use ice, butter, creams, or toothpaste on the burn
Do not pop blisters
Do not remove anything stuck to the burn
Seek medical help if the burn is large, deep, on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or over a joint
Seek urgent help if the person has trouble breathing, signs of shock, or a chemical or electrical burn
Get medical advice if the burn looks infected, is very painful, or is not healing
