Use fine-tipped tweezers or a tick removal tool
Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible
Pull upward with steady, even pressure
Do not twist, crush, or jerk the tick
If mouthparts remain, leave them alone if they cannot be easily removed
Clean the bite area and your hands with soap and water or alcohol
Save the tick in a sealed container if possible
Monitor the bite site for rash, fever, or other symptoms
Seek medical care if you cannot remove the tick, symptoms develop, or you are concerned about infection
