Move the person to a warm, dry place
Remove wet or tight clothing and jewelry
Protect the area from further cold exposure
Do not rub or massage the frostbitten area
Do not use direct heat such as a fire, heater, or heating pad
Rewarm the area in warm water at 37–39°C (99–102°F) for 15–30 minutes
Keep the affected part still and elevated
Separate fingers or toes with dry, sterile gauze
Loosely cover the area with a clean, dry dressing
Give warm, non-alcoholic fluids if the person is awake and able to swallow
Avoid walking on frostbitten feet or toes
Seek urgent medical care for severe, extensive, or deep frostbite
Seek emergency care if the area is hard, white, numb, blistered, or blackened
Seek emergency care if there are signs of hypothermia, confusion, or shivering that stops
Do not thaw the area if refreezing is possible
Use pain relief only as directed by a healthcare professional
