If you know the password, go to System Settings > Users & Groups > Change Password
If you forgot the password, restart the Mac and enter the wrong password three times at the login screen
Click the question mark or password reset option if it appears
Use your Apple ID to reset the password if prompted
If FileVault is enabled, use your recovery key on the reset screen
Restart into macOS Recovery
On Apple silicon Macs, hold the power button until Startup Options appears, then select Options > Continue
On Intel Macs, restart and hold Command + R
In Recovery, open Utilities > Terminal
Type resetpassword and press Return
Follow the on-screen steps to choose the user account and set a new password
Restart the Mac and sign in with the new password
If you cannot reset it, contact Apple Support or use another administrator account on the Mac
