Wash and scrub the potato
Pat the potato dry
Pierce the potato several times with a fork
Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate
Microwave on high for 5 minutes
Turn the potato over
Microwave on high for 3 to 5 more minutes
Check for doneness by inserting a fork
Microwave in 1-minute intervals if needed until tender
Let the potato rest for 2 minutes
Cut open and serve
