Choose a consistent toilet spot outdoors (same area every time)
Take the puppy outside frequently: after waking, after eating, after drinking, after play, and before bedtime
Use a cue word or phrase when the puppy is about to go (for example, “go potty”)
When the puppy goes in the correct spot, immediately praise and reward
Clean accidents quickly with an enzymatic cleaner to remove odor
Confine the puppy when you cannot supervise (crate or small pen)
Use a crate size that allows standing, turning, and lying down comfortably
Take the puppy out on a schedule when crated (for example, every 1–2 hours while awake)
If you catch the puppy starting to go inside, interrupt calmly and take them outside right away
Do not punish accidents; prevent them by increasing supervision and reducing freedom indoors
Keep a close watch indoors (use a leash indoors to prevent roaming)
If the puppy sniffs, circles, or suddenly pauses, take them outside immediately
Feed on a consistent schedule to make bathroom timing easier to predict
Provide water at set times; avoid free access right before bedtime
After meals, take the puppy out within 10–20 minutes
Gradually extend time between toilet trips as the puppy improves
If the puppy repeatedly has accidents in one area, restrict access and clean thoroughly
Keep the crate routine consistent: toilet first outside, then play/food inside
Maintain the same cue word and reward routine every time
Record successful times and accidents to adjust the outdoor schedule
If you notice straining, blood, frequent attempts with little output, or sudden changes, contact a veterinarian
