Wash the persimmon thoroughly
Check the variety before eating
Eat Fuyu persimmons when firm or ripe
Eat Hachiya persimmons only when fully soft and jelly-like
Remove the stem and leaves
Cut the fruit into slices or wedges
Eat the skin if desired
Scoop out the flesh with a spoon if the fruit is very soft
Remove any seeds if present
Avoid eating unripe astringent persimmons
Use persimmon slices in salads, yogurt, or oatmeal
Store ripe persimmons in the refrigerator if not eating immediately
