Apply warm, moist compresses to the boil for 10–20 minutes, 3–4 times a day
Keep the area clean with soap and water
Do not squeeze, pop, or puncture the boil
Cover it with a clean, dry bandage if it drains
Wash your hands before and after touching the area
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Avoid sharing towels, razors, or clothing
Change bandages regularly and wash contaminated items
See a doctor if the boil is very large, very painful, recurring, or on the face, spine, or near the genitals
Seek medical care if you have fever, spreading redness, red streaks, or worsening swelling
Get urgent care if you have diabetes, a weakened immune system, or multiple boils
