Gather 1 cup granulated sugar, 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, and 1/2 cup heavy cream
Heat the sugar in a heavy saucepan over medium heat
Stir constantly until the sugar melts and turns amber
Add the butter and stir until fully melted
Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring
Remove from heat
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Let the sauce cool slightly before using
