Gather a frame, backing board, glass or acrylic sheet, and mounting hardware
Measure the picture dimensions
Cut the backing board to fit the picture
Cut the frame pieces to size if making the frame from scratch
Join the frame pieces together
Sand the frame edges smooth
Paint, stain, or finish the frame if desired
Place the glass or acrylic into the frame
Insert the picture behind the glass
Add the backing board
Secure the back with clips, nails, or fasteners
Attach hanging hardware if needed
Clean the front surface
Hang or display the picture frame
