Gather players and place one fewer spoon than the number of players (example: 5 players, 4 spoons).
Seat players in a circle with all spoons in the center.
Choose one player to start as the dealer (or designate the first “caller”).
Have the dealer hand out cards from a deck to each player (face down), until all players have the same number of cards.
Start the round by placing the remaining deck face down in the center.
The dealer begins by taking the top card from the deck and placing it face up.
Each player, in turn, draws the top card from the deck and then discards one card face up next to the pile.
If a player’s hand matches the rank of the card on the discard pile, they must immediately grab a spoon when they can.
When a player grabs a spoon, they keep it and remain seated.
If multiple players reach for spoons, only one player can take each spoon.
The player who cannot grab a spoon is eliminated for that round.
The dealer continues until all cards in the deck are used.
Remove the eliminated player(s) from the game.
Repeat the process with the remaining players, removing one fewer spoon than the number of remaining players.
Continue until one player remains (the winner).
