Use a standard 52-card deck (2–6 players often use 2 decks).
Determine dealer and deal 10 cards to each player (or 7 cards for some house rules).
Place the remaining deck face down as the draw pile.
Turn the top card face up to start the discard pile.
On your turn, draw one card (either the top card from the draw pile or the top card from the discard pile).
Form melds using cards in your hand:
Sets: 3–4 cards of the same rank (e.g., 8-8-8).
Runs: 3+ cards in sequence in the same suit (e.g., 5-6-7 of hearts).
Lay melds on the table when allowed by your ruleset (some require an initial meld minimum).
You may rearrange and add to existing melds on the table if your ruleset allows it.
Discard one card at the end of your turn to the discard pile.
Continue turns until a player has no cards left in hand.
Score points at the end based on your ruleset:
Common rule: cards left in opponents’ hands count as points against them; face cards often count as 10, aces as 1, number cards as face value.
Declare the winner based on the scoring method (lowest total or first to a target score, depending on house rules).
