How To Season Iron Cast?

Wash the cast iron with hot water and scrub thoroughly

Dry completely (heat on the stove for a few minutes if needed)

Apply a thin layer of cooking oil (vegetable, canola, grapeseed, or flaxseed)

Wipe off excess oil so the surface looks nearly dry

Place the cast iron upside down in a cold oven

Bake at 450°F to 500°F (232°C to 260°C) for 45 to 60 minutes

Turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside

Repeat oiling and baking 2 to 5 times for a stronger seasoning layer

For a rusty or heavily neglected pan: remove rust with steel wool or a wire brush, then dry and proceed with seasoning

After seasoning, wipe with a small amount of oil after each use while still warm

Avoid soaking; wash with hot water and a stiff brush, then dry immediately

Re-season with a thin oil layer after heavy cleaning or if food starts sticking
