Meet the minimum age, citizenship, education, and background requirements for law enforcement
Obtain a high school diploma or GED, and preferably a college degree in criminal justice or a related field
Apply to and graduate from a police academy
Become a sworn police officer
Gain several years of patrol or field experience
Maintain a strong disciplinary, physical fitness, and performance record
Build skills in firearms, tactics, decision-making, and teamwork
Complete specialized SWAT selection testing or tryouts
Pass physical, psychological, medical, and background evaluations
Complete SWAT-specific training and certification
Continue regular tactical, firearms, and fitness training
Demonstrate reliability, discipline, and the ability to work under pressure
