How To Build A Bat House?

Choose untreated exterior-grade wood such as cedar, pine, or plywood

Cut the back panel, front panel, side pieces, roof, and bottom landing area

Make the interior rough or add horizontal grooves for bats to grip

Keep the interior chamber narrow, about 3/4 inch to 1 inch deep

Build a single-chamber or multi-chamber box with tight seams

Leave the bottom open or add a landing pad with a rough surface

Assemble with exterior screws and waterproof wood glue

Seal all exterior joints to prevent drafts

Paint the outside with dark, non-toxic exterior paint

Leave the inside unpainted

Mount the house at least 12 to 20 feet high

Place it on a pole, building, or post in a sunny location

Face it toward south or southeast if possible

Keep it away from bright lights and heavy tree cover

Ensure a clear flight path below the house

Install it near a water source if possible

Check that the house is secure and protected from predators

Clean and inspect it once a year when bats are not using it

Avoid disturbing bats during active seasons
