Only use parasite-specific medications when confirmed or strongly suspected by a healthcare professional
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water, especially before eating and after using the bathroom
Cook meat, fish, and poultry to safe internal temperatures
Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water; peel when appropriate
Drink safe water (bottled, boiled, filtered, or otherwise treated)
Avoid swallowing water in pools, lakes, and rivers
Keep living areas clean: vacuum carpets, wash bedding and towels regularly, and clean bathrooms/kitchens
Launder underwear, pajamas, and bed linens in hot water when pinworms are suspected
For pinworms: treat household members and close contacts as advised by a clinician
Trim nails short and avoid scratching; change underwear daily if pinworms are suspected
Avoid sharing utensils, cups, towels, and bedding
Manage pets properly: deworm pets regularly as recommended by a veterinarian and prevent fecal exposure
Wear gloves when handling soil or animal waste; wash hands after gardening or cleaning litter boxes
If symptoms suggest urgent infection (severe abdominal pain, high fever, dehydration, blood in stool, persistent vomiting, or weight loss), seek urgent medical care
