If you feel nauseated, stop eating and sit upright
Take small sips of water or oral rehydration solution
Avoid strong smells, alcohol, and greasy or heavy foods
If vomiting occurs, rinse your mouth with water afterward
Stay hydrated with small sips after vomiting
Rest and monitor symptoms
Seek urgent medical care if there is blood in vomit, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, severe or worsening abdominal pain, stiff neck, confusion, severe headache, trouble breathing, signs of dehydration, or if vomiting lasts more than 24 hours (adults) or 12 hours (children)
Seek urgent medical care after a head injury or if you suspect poisoning, ingestion of chemicals, or overdose
Contact Poison Control (US: 1-800-222-1222) if poisoning is suspected
If you are unable to keep fluids down, are very weak, or have worsening symptoms, go to urgent care or the ER
