Choose a healthy, disease-free rose stem
Cut a 6 to 8 inch section from a stem that has recently finished flowering
Make the bottom cut just below a leaf node
Remove the flower, buds, and lower leaves
Keep only the top one or two sets of leaves
Lightly scrape the lower part of the stem if desired
Dip the cut end in rooting hormone
Fill a pot with moist, well-draining potting mix
Make a hole in the soil with a pencil or stick
Insert the cutting into the hole
Firm the soil around the cutting
Water lightly
Cover the cutting with a clear plastic bag or humidity dome
Place the pot in bright, indirect light
Keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy
Remove the cover briefly each day for airflow
Check for rooting after several weeks
Transplant the cutting once new growth appears and roots are established
